Dr Jimmy McLaren is a Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician.
Jimmy's interests include injectable therapies for joint osteoarthritis and tendinopathies, such as platelet rich plasma (PRP), hyaluronic acid and cortisone injections. He has extensive experience in the management of acute and chronic injuries in professional and recreational athletes. He treats people of all ages and activity levels, from running marathons to returning to walking, gardening and golf.
Jimmy provides medical coverage to the Geelong Cats Football Club, and was previously a doctor at North Melbourne Football Club. He has covered World Surf League (WSL events) such as Bells Beach Pro, Teahupo’o Tahiti, Keramas Bali, and the Longboard and Junior World Championships. He consults for the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia and has covered the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
He has published research comparing the reliability of assessors with differing backgrounds, in identifying video signs associated with concussion in AFL.
In his spare time, he enjoys surfing before clinic, snowboarding, and fishing and walking his dogs with his family.
